With the advancement of Egyptian civilization there was a growing need to record data. The [M 001 / Mesopotamian] method of writing was borrowed for this purpose and developed into a distinct Egyptian script. [G 011 / Hieroglyphs] - as they are known today - conveyed simple ideas and facts. They were used in official and private texts for secular and religious purposes. Early texts provide evidence of political organization, titles of officials and names of people and places.
